After four days of boxing in Helsinki, the curtain is down on the 41st GeeBee International Boxing Tournament. Vilma Viitanen, Finnish featherweight boxer, achieved great success in winning the gold medal, and the trophy for the Best Local Boxer. Viitanen, last year’s U22 European bronze medalist, won three bouts during the tournament, finishing the final bout in spectacular way stopping her opponent by the RSC in the last round.

The tournament had good representation from 15 countries: Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Estonia, Lithuania, England, Scotland, Wales, Canada, Bahrain, Germany, USA, Israel, Ukraine and Finland, with a total of 114 boxers (51 women and 63 men).
The EUBC Technical Delegate was experienced Mr. Waldemar Mencel from Austria.

The most successful teams are the USA and England with five gold medals each. Ukraine won three gold medals, while Canada succeeded to win two gold medals. Finland, Lithuania, Denmark and Netherlands won one gold medal each. The men’s part of the competition was held in twelve weight categories, while the women fought in nine weight categories.

Trophy for the best boxer among men was awarded to Robby Gonzales from USA,
while Tatiana Kob from Ukraine took the best woman boxer award. USA’s Emilio Garcia was voted the best Technical Boxer, and the trophy for the Best Fighter went to Trudell Jayden from Canada.
