The President of the Armenian Boxing Federation Mr. Ohanes Ovsepian – We will organize the upcoming EUBC European Men’s Elite Boxing Championships with high responsibility

The President of the Armenian Boxing Federation Mr. Ohanes Ovsepian visited the EUBC Youth European Boxing Championships and followed the performance of his boxers in Sofia. The Armenian boxers proved strong technical and physical skills in this championships too and they have strong future expectations.

The Armenian Boxing Federation is the host of the upcoming EUBC European Men’s Elite Boxing Championships which will be the very first major elite event in the country’s history. The management of the Armenians are preparing hard to make a memorable EUBC European Men’s Elite Boxing Championships in Yerevan. The historical event will be held in May 21-31 in their capital city and Mr. Ohanes Ovsepian shared information about the preparations and his opinion about the current championship.

“The organization level of the EUBC Youth European Boxing Championships in Sofia is high as usual, everything is running smoothly. There are not any weak nations in the European continent, the differences are close between the countries. Almost all of the contests are close and some of the smaller countries developed in the recent period.

Erik Israyelyan is our best hope in this youth age group and he is now finalist in Sofia. The performance of the Armenian boxers was so far so good, we had more expectations from some of the athletes but I am satisfied with many of them.

We had Youth National Championships in January which was a selection tournament for the national team. Following that, we had three phases of preparations to give the best possible chance to our boxers to reach medals in Sofia.

Following the national event, the team had a preparation in the mountainous region in Tsaghkadzor before attending in the Adriatic Pearl Youth Tournament in Montenegro one month ago. We had the final preparations in the capital city in Yerevan for this EUBC Youth European Boxing Championships where we have our Olympic Centre for boxing, wrestling, judo and weightlifting too.

Armenia has the tradition in boxing, our king in the sport was Olympic Champion Mr. Vladimir Yengibaryan and two of our boxers came from a boxing school which keeps his name. We have around 50 clubs all over the country in the regions and altogether 8000 boxers from the youngest age groups up to the elite level.

Thanks for the European Boxing Confederation giving the chance to Armenia to host the EUBC European Men’s Elite Boxing Championships. This event is very important for us, for the whole country and we will do that with high responsibility. We are working hard to arrange the highest level of boxing and organization in this championship. The budget of the EUBC European Men’s Elite Boxing Championships is 2.4 million USD which was supported by our government.

We had our Armenian Elite National Championships in February as first selection for the EUBC European Men’s Elite Boxing Championships. Our national team attended at the Belgrade Winner Tournament in Serbia three weeks ago where we earned two gold medals. Following a short rest, the squad began their next preparation phase in Tsaghkadzor 2000m above the sea level. The final preparation will be held in Yerevan and we hope that some of our professional stars as Hovhannes Bachkov and Arman Darchinyan can still join to us in the championship,” said Mr. Ohanes Ovsepian in the venue of the EUBC Youth European Boxing Championships in Sofia.
