One of the most famous European boxing tournaments will start today in the Polish city of Pultusk. The 38th Feliks Stamm Memorial Tournament, 2023, is going to be a real spectacle for the boxing audience inside and outside of Poland.
Elite men and women boxers from all the World will participate at the event, including Australia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Croatia, England, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Scotland, Slovakia, Trinidad and Tobago, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Wales. First bouts are on program today at 17:00, while the finals will be held on Friday, May 26th.
The tournament was named after the Feliks Stamm, a famous boxing coach from Poland who died in 1976. In his memory, the Polish Boxing Association organized the first edition of the tournament in 1977. During the years, numerous boxing stars participated at the tournament, such as Lenox Lewis, Dariusz Michalczewski, Tomasz Adamek, Alexander Povetkin, David Haye, and many others. This is going to be the first time in history that the Feliks Stamm tournament will be held in the city of Pultusk.
Feliks Stamm was born in 1901 and many consider him as a creator of the Polish boxing school system. He competed from 1923 – 1926 and thereafter he started working as one of the national team coaches. He became the head coach in 1936, and led the Polish team for more than thirty years, participating at many major competitions, including seven Olympic Games.
