One of the oldest European tournaments, Golden Belt Nicolae Linca, is going to be organized in Romanian city Targu Mures from 11 – 17 June. The organizer, Romanian Boxing Federation, expects a lot of participating countries this year, since the tournament could be a good preparation event for the Olympic Games in Paris. The previous edition of Golden Belt Nicolae Lincawas held at the same city two years ago.
The first bouts at the Polivalenta Sports Hall in TarguMures are planned for 12 June, after the Technical Meeting and Official Draw that will be held one day earlier. There will be five competition days, including the finals on 16 June. Elite women will box in all 12 and men in all 13 weight categories.
The 2022 edition gathered 125 boxers from Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Georgia, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Moldova, Romania, Spain, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
Nicolae Linca was a famous Romanian boxer, and up to now the only Olympic champion from this country. He was two times European bronze medalist (1953 and 1955), after which he won the gold medal at the 1956 Melbourne, Australia Olympics. Nicolae Linca competed in the welterweight and light middleweight category.
