All women’s finals of the EUBC U23 European Boxing Championships were held yesterday at the Sofia Sports Hall. Program started at 4 pm and brought us some very interesting and high level bouts. There were twelve contests which crowned new U23 European champions.
Trophy for the best female boxer of the competition went to Sara Cirkovic from Serbia. She competed in the 54 kg weight category, and had three wins by unanimous decision against tough opponents from Armenia, Ireland and England. Cirkovic, ex youth World champion and Paris 2024 Olympian, is now four times European champion.
The best team among women is Ukraine. They won three gold medals yesterday, since Daria Olha Hutarina, Natalia Merinova and Iryna Lutsak defeated their opponents. Ukraine women boxers also won two silver medals and one bronze. Second place went to Turkey, with two champions, Nurselen Yalgattekin and Busra Isildar, with two more silver and two bronze medallists. Third place is team Serbia. Besides Sara Cirkovic, the European champion became Kristina Nadj Varga, who fought in the 50 kg weight division, while Krisitina Kuluhova won the silver medal.
Besides the boxers from Ukraine, Turkey and Serbia, European U23 champions are also phenomenal GrosySthelyne from France (57 kg), Elida Kocharyan from Armenia (60 kg), Sacha Hickey from England (63 kg), Lisa O’Rourke from Ireland (70 kg) and Daria Kozorezfrom Moldova (+81 kg).
