The IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships was successfully held in the Serbian city of Nis. The competition was held from 6 – 16 March, and had 239 boxers from 51 countries. The Serbian Boxing Federationorganized another World championship in a four-years period, since the same competition among elite men was held in Belgrade in 2021.

Twelve final bouts were held in the Cair Sports Hall last Sunday, and the new World champions were crowned. The most gold medalists are from Russia. They have four champions, and they are: Nune Asatrian (60kg), Elena Gapeshina (70kg), Anastasia Shamonova (75kg) and Saltanat Medenova (81kg).

Second place in medal standings went to Kazakhstan, who has three gold medalists, two silver and one bronze. Third place belongs to Turkey. Busenaz Surmeneli, fighting in the 66kg weight class, became a three-times World champion, while her teammates won three silver medals, and two bronze.

The best boxer of the championships is from Serbia. Andjela Brankovic achieved five victories in Nis, boxing in the 57kg weight category. The best referee is from Morocco, Oumayma Semlali.
