Oleksandr Khyzhniak from Ukraine, European and world champion, is now Olympic champion, too. Brilliant light heavyweight, Tokyo Olympics silver medallist, won his final bout last night in Paris, defeating tough opponent from Kazakhstan Nurbek Oralbay by split decision. Khyzhniak now possesses gold medals from all major competitions in Olympic style boxing, which ranks him among the best boxers from Ukraine of all time.

Another European finalist from yesterday’s programme, excellent Sofiane Oumiha from France, unfortunately lost by very narrow decision against Cuban Erislandy Alvarez.

Seven boxers from Europe were in yesterday’s bouts. Super heavyweight Ayoub Ghadfa from Spain continued his winning streak in Paris, and secured his place in the finals, where he will face current Olympic champion from Uzbekistan Bakhodir Jalolov.

Besides Khyzhniak and Ghadfa, outstanding almost 21-year-old Julia Szeremeta from Poland left the ring victorious. This very talented boxer, reigning European U22 champion, has an incredible tournament in Paris, where she arrived as one of the youngest athletes. Two weeks after the beginning of the Olympic games, she left behind four opponents, and she will fight in the finals on 10 August. Her rival will be Lin Yu Ting from Chinese Taipei
