Nine European boxers who participated at the Paris Olympics in +92 kg weight category were on the scene yesterday. Five of them won their contests in the Arena Paris Nord, and moved to the last eight phase. 23-year-old Italian, Diego Lenzi, defeated Joshua Edwards from the USA by split decision. In the quarterfinals he will face strong German Nelvie Raman Tiafack, who was better than Abdullayev from Azerbaijan.

European super heavyweights who are now in quarterfinals are: Aboudou Djamili-Dini from France, Ayoub Ghadfafrom Spain and Davit Chaloyan from Armenia.

Besides super heavyweights, boxers competing in the light welterweight division were also in the ring yesterday. Radoslav Rosenov from Bulgaria and Malik Hasanov from Azerbaijan have lost their bouts, while Richard Kovacsfrom Hungary, Sofiane Oumiha from France and LashaGuruli from Georgia have won, and placed themselves into quarterfinals.

60 kg women boxers also fought in round of 16. Olympic champion Kellie Harrington from Ireland defeated AlessiaMesiano from Italy, and European champion Natalia Shadrina from Serbia was better than Dounia Khelif from Algeria. 25-year-old lightweight from Netherlands, Chelsey Heijnen, defeated Won Ungyong from North Korea. Heijnen will box her next match against strong Brazilian Beatriz Ferreira.

Today’s programme starts at 11am. Men’s boxers will compete in 51 kg and 80 kg, while the women’s boxers will fight in 54 kg and 57 kg weight categories.
