Kelli Harrington from Ireland, who participated in Paris in the lightweight division, won the gold medal at the Olympic games boxing tournament, and became two times Olympic champion. Three years ago, in Tokyo, she fought in the finals against Brazilian Beatriz Ferreira, while yesterday her opponent was Yang Wenlu from China. Kelli Harrington, who is also European and world champion, defeated the Chinese by split decision.

Two more boxers were in yesterday’s semifinals bouts, Buse Naz Cakiroglu from Turkey and Lewis Richardsonfrom Great Britain. Cakiroglu, silver medallist from Tokyo, won her bout by unanimous decision, and she is now in her second Olympic finals. On 9 August she will fight against Wu Yu from China.

Lewis Richardson, who boxed in Paris in the light middleweight category, lost the very close contest against Mexican Marco Alonso Verde. After winning two bouts against boxers from Serbia and Jordan, Richardson lost his semifinals fight by 3:2 result.
