52 years after its first edition, the Golden Belt NicolaeLinca International Tournament will start today in TarguMures, Romania. This boxing elite men and women competition is one of the oldest in Europe, and this year gathered 57 boxers from 11 countries. Besides the host country, participation will take athletes from Egypt, France, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Moldova, Mexico, Poland, Serbiaand Wales.
First bouts at the Polivalenta Sports Hall in Targu Mureswill start today at 4 pm. Men boxers will participate in all 13 weight categories, while the women will box in 50 kg, 52 kg, 54 kg, 57 kg, 60 kg, 66 kg, 75 kg and 81 kg. The EUBC Technical Delegate is Mr. Adam Kusior from Poland. There will be five competition days, with the mixed finals bouts planned for 15 and 16 June.
This event is a good check before the Olympic Games in Paris. Therefore, the spectators in Targu Mures will have opportunity to watch some of the Olympians these days, such as: Fatima Herrera and Citlalli Ortiz from Mexico, Yomna Ayyad from Egypt, Luca Hamori from Hungary, Julia Szeremeta, Aneta Rygielska and Elzbieta Wojcikfrom Poland, Diego Lenzi, Salvatore Cavallaro and Aziz Abbes Mouhiidine from Italy, to name some of them.
