The IBA Youth World Boxing Championships was successfully held in BudvaMontenegro from 21 October – 4 November. 593 men and women boxers, from 74 national teams took part in this spectacular event. European boxing was represented by 35 countries, who managed to win 41 medals. When we talk about the women’s competition, three countries took the gold medals in Budva, IrelandRussia and Turkey.

Ireland arrived in Montenegro with altogether eight boxers, three women and five men, and made an amazing result with two of the girls winning the gold medals. SiofraLawless fought in the 63 kg weight category, and became the world champion after four brilliant wins. Her team mate Kyla Byrne Doyle, competing in the 66 kg weight category achieved the same result, also defeating four opponents.

Russia is another European country with two champions among women. Snezhana Kuznetsova won the gold medal in the 52 kg weight category, while Diana Sikstus did the same in the 54 kg weight class. Both of them had a fantastic four wins at this championship. Besides them, Russia won one more bronze medal, with Sofia Dushinalosing the semifinal bout against the boxer from Uzbekistan.

The last women’s gold medal for European countries went to super heavyweight from Turkey Havvanur Kethuda. This two times European champion from Trabzon won three fights in Budva, defeating opponents from Poland, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, and brought the only gold medal to her country.
