Alfonso Dominguez Loren Berto, boxing in 92 kg weight category and representing Azerbaijan, had his day yesterday winning the bout by split decision against two times Olympic champion and five times world champion from Cuba Julio de la Cruz Pedraza. Dominguez won the contest by 3-2 result, and progressed to the next stage of the tournament, where he will face Aibek Oralbay from Kazakhstan.
The rest of European boxers achieved nine more victories. Starting with the ladies, experienced Aneta Rygelska from Poland won the close match against Rosie Eccles who represents Great Britain. They boxed in the 66 kg weight division. In the same weight category, Anna Luca Hamorifrom Hungary was better than Grainne Walsh from Ireland, while the 21-year-old Finland boxing only representative in Paris, Pihla Kaivo-Oja, defeated Margaret Tembo from Zambia by unanimous decision.
Male boxers from the old continent won seven bouts on the second day of the Olympics. Besides the great heavyweight Alfonso Dominguez, winners in that weight category were also Emanuel Reyes Pla from Spain, Victor Schelstraetefrom Belgium and Jack Marley from Ireland. In the 57 kg weight category, Swedish Ibrahim Nebil also succeeded to move further in the tournament, as well as light middleweight contenders Rami Mofid Kiwan from Bulgaria and Makan Traore from France.
