Dear friends of Olympic Boxing, I feel the duty to remember and make some reflections on the painful passing of Dr. Ho Kim, former General Manager of AIBA. His untimely passing saddened us deeply. Not only because he was a dear friend, but because from 2006 to 2015 he produced great innovations and extraordinary initiatives for the relaunch of Olympic boxing after the long and dark season of moral and cultural impoverishment that had characterized AIBA until the Santo Domingo Congress 2006.
Dr. Ho Kim, AIBA General Secretary, has used all his managerial ability to modify and improve the technical and organizational rules, to launch new competitive formats, to attempt to overcome the manipulation of the management of technical results.
Unfortunately, not everything went according to forecasts and expectations. Ho Kim’s good faith and correct determination have been betrayed by those who, as always, think of their own interests and not those of Olympic sport. It would be too long to list the things that have been successful and those that have failed due to misunderstanding, boycotts and correct opposition.
Doctor Ho Kim should however be remembered and thanked for his admirable dedication to work, for his high managerial qualities, for his honesty and for his strong determination to achieve a great goal: to reunify Olympic and professional boxing under one single acronym.
Dear Ho, those who knew you and had the privilege of working alongside you will not forget you!
Rest in peace!!
