The 18th edition of the Danas Pozniakas Youth Boxing Tournament was held in the Lithuanian capital city from March 1-5. Vilnius hosted the first international tournament which was organised in this Baltic country in 2023, and during the three days of boxing it gathered ninety-three boxers from twelve nations. It was the youth men’s tournament where boxers born in 2005 and 2006 were eligible to compete. The EUBC Technical Delegate of the tournament was Mrs. Susanne Karrlander from Sweden.
Armenia, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Sweden and Wales participated this year. The youth men boxers fought in all 13 weight categories. But because there were three competition days, and more than eight boxers in a few weight classes, categories such as 60 kg, 63,5 kg, 67 kg and 71 kg had to be split into two groups.
After three days of boxing, and altogether seventy-six bouts, the most successful national team was Georgia. They arrived in Vilnius with a strong team, and won nine gold medals. The following nations were Lithuania and Poland with two gold medals each, while Israel, Wales, Sweden and Norway won one gold medal.
This memorial tournament was first held in 2006, and was named by the famous Lithuanian boxer Danas Pozniakas. He was gold medalist in Mexico 1968 Olympic games, representing the Soviet Union, and three times European champion.
